Bob, born in Milwaukee, began guitar lessons at 10 years old. In his teens he played drums in a marching band and in his 30's learned to play piano. With musical influences like The Beatles, The Who, Harry Chapin, and Jim Croce, (Why are most of his favorites dead?) Bob’s tastes lie in the great melodies of the 60’s and 70’s. His piano instructor taught him the importance of music theory, and more importantly when to ignore it and just have fun!Initially Bob seemed content playing guitar and piano for his own enjoyment hiding out in the bedroom until he met Joe on the basketball court who finally convinced him to "jam" in the basement. Joe assured him they would play in the basement, they belonged in the basement and they would stay in the basement. A year later, at the prodding of all who heard the jamming, "The Average Basement Band" climbed the stairs out of the underground room and has been playing to rave reviews ever since!
Evenings and weekends find Bob, guitar in hand and earphones on, fervently bent over sheet music recomposing songs for the band to play. Bob lives in North Prairie with his wife Lynda and their collective nine children! With these family dynamics, one can undoubtedly understand his music escapism.
Bob’s favorite musical quote is by Sting:
"The reward for playing music, at any level, is not the accolades nor the awards but rather the music you create!"
